Before The Next Chapter and JOH.’s consultancy work, there was BIMM in Brighton, then nearly two decades in banking and financial services. Here’s the fuller story.
Joe created high performing teams, led complex operations and transformation programmes across a career in financial services. That gave him first hand experience of leadership, strategy, customer experience and what it actually takes to turn ambitious ideas into results.
His approach is practical, direct and grounded in real world experience: cutting through the noise, and creating the structure and accountability needed to turn good intentions into action. It’s the same approach behind The Next Chapter and JOH.’s Business Consultancy today.
Before spreadsheets and strategy decks, Joe attended BIMM in Brighton, originally founded as the Brighton Institute of Modern Music and now BIMM University, one of Europe’s best known contemporary music schools. It’s not a hobbyist school: it’s real ensemble work, real venues, real pressure to perform, the kind of training that has produced artists like George Ezra and James Bay. Most of what Joe now teaches clients about discipline, timing and consistent practice, he learned there, from a metronome, long before he learned it from a management textbook.
From Brighton to the boardroom. A career in banking and financial services that ran nearly two decades, creating high performing teams, leading complex operations and transformation programmes. It’s the kind of work that teaches you fast what actually moves a business forward, and what’s just noise.
Joe’s degree wasn’t earned in a lecture hall on its own. It was earned through a Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship delivered by Henley Business School, part of the University of Reading and one of a small number of business schools worldwide holding triple accreditation from AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS, studied alongside a full time leadership role, not instead of one. The route combines a full honours degree with Chartered Manager (CMgr) status, awarded by the Chartered Management Institute: a professional accreditation that has to be demonstrated through real, ongoing leadership responsibility, not just exam performance. It means the strategy, people management and operational thinking behind The Next Chapter and JOH.’s consultancy work was proven on live teams and real budgets while the qualification was being earned, not developed in theory afterwards.
Two decades on, Joe spends his time helping other people and businesses do the same thing: get clear, get moving, and keep going. That became The Next Chapter and JOH.’s Business Consultancy, built on lived leadership experience rather than borrowed frameworks.
Whichever direction you’re focused on, the ambition is the same: more clarity, more momentum, more of what actually matters.
